Cooking tips!
Salads don’t have to be boring. Combine vegetables in different colors, textures and flavors to keep things interesting. Pick a fresh, flavorful dressing and always finish with a little crunch. In my book, that’s what makes a salad!
Keep make-ahead salads crisp
Prepping a salad to eat later? Keep the dressing separate so the vegetables don’t go limp or dry out. Store the salad in an airtight container in the fridge, and keep any crunchy toppings on the side so they stay crisp too.
Turn a salad into a meal
Want a salad as your main meal? Mix and match these ingredients for a filling, nourishing and, above all, delicious salad:
- a leafy green: I like spinach or romaine, which has plenty of bite.
- colorful vegetables: with a range of flavors and textures.
- a protein: chicken, an egg or lentils to make the salad filling.
- cheese or a dressing: a bit of flavorful cheese or a zesty dressing brings all the flavors in the salad together.
- something crunchy: to finish a salad, I love extra crunch on top, like croutons, but also seeds, nuts or even crispy roasted chickpeas.
