Healthier lunches built on bread
A sandwich for lunch is a true classic, and for good reason: it’s quick, easy and delicious. With a few small tricks, though, you can make your usual cheese sandwich a lot more nourishing.
- Go for whole wheat versions. Whether you pick sliced bread, wraps or a bagel, give the whole wheat version a try. It has extra fiber and keeps you full longer after lunch.
- Add vegetables, in your sandwich or on the side. Not a fan of veggies with your cheese? Toss together a quick cucumber and tomato salad and enjoy it as a fresh side dish.
- Big mayonnaise fan? Lighten it up with a sauce that’s half mayo, half yogurt, seasoned well with salt and pepper. You get the same texture and flavor as mayonnaise while using a lot less.

Toast your bagels for extra flavor
A simple way to give bagels a little something extra is to toast them briefly. The outside turns wonderfully crisp while the inside stays soft and chewy. A bagel’s flavor also comes through better when it’s warm. Whether you go savory with cream cheese or sweet with jam, a toasted bagel gives your lunch a delicious boost.
